Poker Hi Low Card

High-Low

Deal this dilly exactly like Baseball for high, but get set for some tougher decisions. Often you'll find yourself with a good high hand along with a perfect low. Beware of swinging in chips declare or consecutive declaration because too many wheels are filled in this poker game. It's not uncommon to see two or three perfect lows tangle in one pot. So, if you end up with five aces and a wheel, settle for high money if two or three hands around the board look even halfway low. Beware of even a single 4 showing; it fits a perfect low and also gives your opponent an extra down card, so that a sorry looking hand like (?-?-?)/4-K-Q-J/(?) can turn out to be very low.

Basball High-Low Game

Baseball is the only high-low absolute game in which I prefer to play the sixty-four low instead of the wheel. The reason is that a 5-spot is a dangerous card in sixty-four, and most players don't know just how dangerous. A 5 seems like a good low card, but it will too often get you into too much trouble. If you're playing sixty-four and have a borderline call with a low hand that contains a 5, fold fast. In a game with seven loose players, a sixty-five will either lose or tie more often than it will win. And remember that you get only a quarter of the pot if you tie an opponent for low, and you lose all if you tie on a swing.
The staying requirements for tight play include:
1. Two or three wild cards.
2. A wild bonus card and two cards to a perfect low.
3. A wild card and a pair of natural aces, kings, or queen.
4. Three natural aces. But fold trip kings or queens if anyone bets. vigorously; it's too easy for low hands to develop into four or five aces.
